TB Screening Project
The Care Ministry launched a new “Early Detection of TB” Screening Project in May 2012.
29 of our volunteers were trained in the identification and treatment of TB and will now be able to offer a deeper level of care and support to those affected by TB in our targeted communities.
Out of the 29 volunteers that were trained 10 volunteers will now be implementing TB services in the community through the use of symptom screening tools and provision of ongoing treatment and support. The other 19 volunteers will offer a deeper level of care and support to those affected by TB.
10 volunteers travel from house to house in their communities providing TB screening, counselling, TB & HIV education and support for clients as part of this Project. Much emphasis is placed on counselling clients regarding both TB and ARV adherence and many ARV defaulters are being identified. Many clients are re-initiated back onto ARV treatment and follow up with extensive support in their homes. Community members show a very positive response to the caregivers and many referrals are made through word of mouth. Sr Nomsa Jonas provides individual supervision weekly for the volunteers as well as regular patient visits in these communities.
